The Ones That Get Carried Everywhere

Bum Bumz makes plush characters that are meant to be held, not staged. We started because most soft toys are built to look good in a box and then quietly give up — seams that split after a month, stuffing that flattens into a pancake, faces that stop looking like anything once they’ve been loved on a little. Ours are built the other way around: chunky enough to squish, sturdy enough to survive being a pillow, a passenger, and a pretend patient all in the same afternoon.

That means we care about the boring parts. We test fabric by washing it, not by petting it in a showroom — dozens of cycles, hot and cold, until we know a character comes out looking like itself instead of a sad rag. Stitching gets pulled harder than any kid could pull it. We’ve killed off designs we liked because the fill settled wrong after two weeks, or because a seam sat somewhere a small hand would find and pick at. It’s slower than just approving a sample and moving on, but a plush toy only has one real job, and it either does it for years or it doesn’t.

We’re also not interested in making a hundred of these. Every character gets a name and a personality because we’d rather you get attached to a few than collect a shelf full of things you can’t tell apart. And they’re priced like what they are — a good toy, made properly — not like something that needs to justify a marketing budget. If you’re buying for a kid who’s going to drag one through the yard and then insist it sleeps on the pillow, you’re exactly who we had in mind.

Squished, Stacked, and Fully Adored

Hannah B.

“My daughter picked one out at a shop and now the story card is the whole ritual. She reads the backstory out loud before the plush is officially ‘allowed’ on the bed.”

Christine A.

“I started collecting these for myself before I had any excuse. The seasonal releases are the trap, you tell yourself you’re done and then the holiday ones drop.”

Owen R.

“Got the Halloween set for my classroom reading corner and the kids fight over which one gets to sit with them. The fabric doesn’t pill after being handled.”

Good Things to Know

How big is each one, and does the size vary?

Most characters fall in a similar size range that fits comfortably in two hands, though the exact measurements are listed on each individual product page. Shape plays a part too, since rounder designs can look larger on a shelf than the listed dimensions suggest.

What comes in the packaging besides the character itself?

Each one arrives with its own name, backstory, and collector details printed on an included card or on the box itself. Characters are released in themed groups, so the card also makes it easier to keep track of which ones belong to the same set.

Is it appropriate for babies and toddlers?

Age guidance is printed on the packaging and listed on the product page, and checking it before gifting is worth doing. While many designs use embroidered features and no removable pieces, some include tags, accessories, or smaller trims that call for supervision with very young children.

Can it be cleaned if it gets dirty?

Spot cleaning with a damp cloth and a small amount of mild soap handles most marks without affecting the fabric. Machine washing and hot water are best avoided, since they can mat the outer material, shift the stuffing, or loosen embroidered details. Air drying fully, away from direct heat, keeps the shape intact.

What materials are used on the outside and inside?

The outer fabric is typically a soft polyester with embroidered facial features rather than glued-on parts, and the filling is a polyester fiber blend that holds its shape after being squeezed. Embroidered details hold up better over time than plastic pieces and reduce the number of small parts involved.

What should be done if one arrives flat, marked, or damaged?

Sending photos along with the order number soon after unboxing is the quickest way to sort out a replacement. Mild flattening from shipping is common and usually resolves after a gentle fluff and a day or two out of the box, so a quick reshape before reporting an issue often does the trick.
